I’ve been a Christian for the majority of my life, but didn’t actually love God until 2024 when I stopped fighting Him on several issues. I then started going to a church that my best friend recommended me: Base Church, previously Slate Church in Waterloo, ON. I’d like to say the rest is history, but it was only a year and a half at the time of writing. Being asked to use my skills to serve a church that has transformed so many lives for the better was an honour. Before May 2025, I was simply asked for certain odd tasks that didn’t have a designated person for, such as making some promotional material for our yearly church conference, BaseCon, or making custom maps for reference on the church’s website.
In May 2025, I was asked to make two weekly invite posts for the church’s Instagram page, as shown on this page and the next. The church’s aesthetics were already predetermined – a black and white main palette with some muted colours when wanted, use mainly sans-serif fonts, etc., and I stuck to that as asked. The modernness of the posts reflects two of the three main locations of Base; one of which is comprised mostly of university students! I enjoyed my work done here, and I am proud of my improvements in working with clients as a designer. Utilizing the work of the photography team to create posts that could change someone’s life for the better is work I will always cherish doing.
